UTSA combines Killeen’s big hit with strong pitching to win series opener against Marshall

Josh Killeen had a three-run double in the second inning and UTSA got strong pitching to beat Marshall 6-3 on Friday at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners are 8-2 in their last 10 CUSA games. UTSA and Marshall play again Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

UTSA starting pitcher Daniel Garza went 4 2/3 innings and allowed three hits and two runs (both runs unearned in the fifth inning).

UTSA reliever Braylon Owens (3-1) pitched three scoreless innings and earned the win. Simon Miller entered the game in the top of the ninth inning and pitched the final three outs to get his first save of the season.

Killeen’s key hit put UTSA in front 4-0. Ian Bailey hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it 5-0.
