UTSA soccer drops conference opener to UAB

Addy Johnson scored UTSA’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to UAB in the Roadrunners’ American Athletic Conference opener on Thursday at UTSA Park West Athletics Complex.

Johnson, a freshman forward from Edmond, Okla., scored early in the second half off assists from Olivia Alvarez and Michelle Polo. Maia Sirota and Abbey Burns both scored in the second half for UAB.

UTSA plays on the road Thursday, Sept. 19, at East Carolina. The Roadrunners’ next home date is Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. against Abilene Christian on Hispanic Heritage Day.

The UTSA women’s soccer team beat Colorado State 1-0 on Sunday at UTSA Athletics Complex in San Antonio.

Tyler Coker scored the lone goal in the second half off an assist from Michelle Polo.

UTSA goaltender Jasmine Kessler recorded four saves in the shutout. Kessler earned honorable mention honors in Monday’s American Athletic Conference women’s soccer roundup.
