The 24-year-old right-hander was a sixth-round draft pick from the University of West Virginia in 2021.
Valenzuela, a 23-year-old catcher from Mexico, is the No. 11 prospect in the Padres organization. On Tuesday he played in his 35th game for the Missions this season after splitting last season between Class A Fort Wayne and San Antonio. He entered the game batting .228 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. He had an RBI double in the eighth inning on Tuesday.
The Missions added right-handed relief pitcher Francis Pena to their roster on Tuesday after he was promoted from the Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps. Pena appeared in 11 games with the TinCaps this season, all in relief, and had a 3-0 record and two saves with a blazing 0.86 ERA. He is a 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic.
UTSA center fielder and leadoff batter Madi Hays scored the Roadrunners’ run. Camryn Robillard and Kyle Forney had UTSA’s only hits. UTSA starter Jamie Gilbert pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run and five hits in seven innings.
Baylor center fielder Ashly Wachtendorf had two hits and drove in both of the Bears’ runs. Kaci West pitched the first four innings for Baylor. RyLee Crandall pitched the final three innings and earned the win.

The 6-foot senior forward from Kent, Wash., averaged a team-high 17.1 points per game over the final 12 games of the season. Jenkins’ efforts helped UTSA to a fourth-place finish in the American Athletic Conference regular-season season standings in 2023-24.
She recorded team-highs of 27 points and seven rebounds in an 80-62 victory over Northern Colorado in the first round of the 2024 Women’s NIT – the first postseason tournament victory in UTSA women’s basketball history.
