The UTSA women’s soccer team beat Colorado State 1-0 on Sunday at UTSA Athletics Complex in San Antonio.

Tyler Coker scored the lone goal in the second half off an assist from Michelle Polo.

UTSA goaltender Jasmine Kessler recorded four saves in the shutout. Kessler earned honorable mention honors in Monday’s American Athletic Conference women’s soccer roundup.

Izzy Lane’s goal carries USTA soccer past St. Mary’s

Izzy Lane scored her first goal in a UTSA uniform as the Roadrunners beat St. Mary’s 1-0 on Sunday at UTSA Park West Athletics Complex.

Lane, a junior from England and transfer from Delaware, scored off an assist from Jordan Walker. UTSA goalkeepers Jasmine Kessler and Isobel Herrod each played a half to combine for the shutout.

UTSA coach Derek Pittman recorded his 100th career victory.

UTSA plays Baylor in women’s soccer exhibition

The UTSA women’s soccer team suited up for the first time this fall in a 3-0 exhibition loss to Baylor on Sunday at Park West.

Padres prospects to watch: Francis Pena, Ryan Bergert, Brandon Valenzuela

San Antonio Missions fans got a good look at San Diego Padres prospects Ryan Bergert and Brandon Valenzuela on Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium. The Missions lost to the Frisco RoughRiders 3-2.

Bergert, the Padres’ No. 7 prospect according to MLB.com, got the start on the mound. Bergert went 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks against the Frisco RoughRiders. He left the game with the RoughRiders leading 2-0. The 24-year-old right-hander was a sixth-round draft pick from the University of West Virginia in 2021.

Valenzuela, a 23-year-old catcher from Mexico, is the No. 11 prospect in the Padres organization. On Tuesday he played in his 35th game for the Missions this season after splitting last season between Class A Fort Wayne and San Antonio. He entered the game batting .228 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. He had an RBI double in the eighth inning on Tuesday.

The Missions added right-handed relief pitcher Francis Pena to their roster on Tuesday after he was promoted from the Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps. Pena appeared in 11 games with the TinCaps this season, all in relief, and had a 3-0 record and two saves with a blazing 0.86 ERA. He is a 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic.

UTSA’s softball team lost to 24th-ranked Baylor 2-1 on Tuesday at Roadrunner Softball Field.

UTSA center fielder and leadoff batter Madi Hays scored the Roadrunners’ run. Camryn Robillard and Kyle Forney had UTSA’s only hits. UTSA starter Jamie Gilbert pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run and five hits in seven innings.

Baylor center fielder Ashly Wachtendorf had two hits and drove in both of the Bears’ runs. Kaci West pitched the first four innings for Baylor. RyLee Crandall pitched the final three innings and earned the win.

Jordyn Jenkins and Elyssa Coleman announced Friday on UTSA women’s basketball social media that they will both return for next season.

Jenkins missed UTSA’s first 21 games of the 2023-24 season with a knee injury. The 6-foot senior forward from Kent, Wash., averaged a team-high 17.1 points per game over the final 12 games of the season. Jenkins’ efforts helped UTSA to a fourth-place finish in the American Athletic Conference regular-season season standings in 2023-24.

She recorded team-highs of 27 points and seven rebounds in an 80-62 victory over Northern Colorado in the first round of the 2024 Women’s NIT – the first postseason tournament victory in UTSA women’s basketball history.

Jenkins was the Conference USA player of the year in 2022-23.

Elyssa Coleman, who led UTSA women’s in rebounds and blocks in 2023-24, will return for next season.

Coleman and Jordan Jenkins both announced Friday on UTSA women’s basketball social media that they will be back for 2024-25.

Coleman averaged a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game, had 45 total blocks and was second in scoring per game at 10.4. She is a 6-foot-3 forward from Houston.

UTSA lost its 2024 baseball season opener on Friday at Roadrunner Field. UT-Arlington took a 9-0 lead and held off UTSA 10-9.

The Roadrunners had 11 hits including two home runs from Caleb Hill and one from Mason Lytle.

The Trinity women’s tennis team beat Our Lady of the Lake 6-3 on Friday in the Tigers’ first home match of the spring.

Trinity swept the three doubles matches. The Tigers’ Ruth Hill rallied after dropping the first set and beat OLLU’s Lucia Polluharova at No. 1 singles to set the tone.

Trinity and OLLU went 3-3 in the six singles matches.
