UTSA volleyball lost to Rice 3-0 on Sunday in American Athletic Conference play at the Convocation Center.

Gigi Mason and Ally Tribe led UTSA with six kills each. Taylor Preston had 12 kills for Rice.

UTSA is 10-7 on the season and 3-3 in the American Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners at back home in the Convocation Center on Friday at 6 p.m. against Wichita State.

Michelle Polo and Kameron Kloza gave UTSA soccer a goal in each half in a 2-1 victory over South Florida on Thursday at Park West.

The victory keeps USTA unbeaten in American Athletic Conference action at 3-0-3. UTSA is 7-2-5 on the season.

Polo scored the first goal of the night in the 44th minute off assists from Jasmine Kessler and Brooklyn Bailey. It was the second goal of the season for Polo, a junior from Magnolia, Texas.

Kloza scored a second-half goal in the 78th minute on a header off a pass from Izzy Lane to make it 2-0. It was the first goal this season and third career goal at UTSA for Kloza, a redshirt senior from San Antonio LEE.

UTSA goalkeeper Jasmine Kessler had five saves.

South Florida’s goal was scored by Selma Astrom in the 83rd minute.

UTSA plays on the road against Tulsa on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Roadrunners are back at Park West on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. against Memphis.

The physical aspect of the game tests the toughness of the players – all the soaring, crashing, grabbing, colliding and other not so glamorous challenges of life on the pitch.

May’s goal gives UTSA soccer a tie with Charlotte

Zoe May followed her own shot for UTSA’s only goal in a 1-1 tie with Charlotte in American Athletic Association women’s soccer on Sunday at Park West.

May’s goal came with just over a minute left to play. The senior from Canada took a penalty kick, which was blocked by Charlotte goalkeeper Harlee Head. May nailed the rebound into the bottom right side of the net with 88:58 showing on the clock.

It was May’s fourth goal of the season.

Megan Bradley scored Charlotte’s goal in the first half. UTSA goalkeeper Jasmine Kessler made six saves.

UTSA is 6-2-4 on the season and 2-0-2 in conference. The Roadrunners play on the road against Rice on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Tulsa beat UTSA 3-2 (27-25, 25-11, 21-25, 29-31, 15-7) in their American Athletic Conference volleyball opener on Friday at the Convocation Center.

Gigi Mason led USTA with 18 kills, Taylor Gaines had 12 and Caroline Tredwell and Ally Tribe had 11 each.

UTSA is 5-4 on the season. The Roadrunners are at home again Sunday at 1 p.m. against Charlotte.

Tulsa is 11-2 on the season.

UTSA volleyball won both its matches on Friday in the Roadrunner Classic at the Convocation Center.

UTSA beat UT-Arlington 3-0 in the afternoon and North Florida 3-1 in the night match.

The Roadrunners (6-4) are back in the Convocation Center tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. to play Prairie View.

UTSA’s Izzy Lane scored the only goal of the night in a 1-0 victory over North Texas in American Athletic Conference women’s soccer action on Thursday at Park West.

Lane, a senior from London, England, scored her goal in the 82nd minute.

Roadrunners goalkeeper Jasmine Kessler added to her school record with her 15th career shutout.

UTSA (6-2-2 overall, 2-0 in AAC) plays its next game on the road Thursday, Sept. 25, at UAB. The Roadrunners are back home at Park West on Sunday, Sept. 28, against Charlotte.

Texas State beat UTSA 3-1 (25-17, 34-32, 23-25, 25-23) in a volleyball opening weekend match on Saturday at the Convocation Center.

Samantha Wunsch, a junior from Austin, led Texas State with 23 kills.

Ally Tribe, a sophomore from Columbus, Texas, had 17 kills for UTSA. Caroline Tredwell, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, had 16 kills and seven blocks and Taylor Gaines, a freshman from Liberty Hill, Texas, had 11 kills.

UTSA (0-2) plays its next three matches on the road Friday and Saturday at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, Mo. The Roadrunners’ next home match is Sept. 11 against Kent State.

Texas State (1-1) plays in the Southwest Showdown in Edinburg on Friday and Saturday. The Bobcats host the Texas State Invitational on Sept. 11-13.

Stephen F. Austin beat UTSA 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-16) in the volleyball season opener for both teams on Friday at the Convocation Center.

Katherine Holtman led the Lumberjacks with 11 kills and Ilana De Assis had 10.

Caroline Tredwell and Ally Tribe led UTSA with six kills each, Megan Hawkins had 13 assists and Tribe had three blocks.

The Roadrunners are at home again on Saturday. UTSA plays Texas State at 6 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
