Tonight’s game game will be Brown’s third start of the season, all in Triple-A. He didn’t get a decision in either of his first two starts. He has a 3.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts and three walks in 12.0 innings pitched.
Last year Brown went 9-1 in Double-A Biloxi in 22 games, 21 starts.
Jeffress spent time in Triple-A after experiencing shoulder issues in spring training.
Jeffress appeared in four games with the Missions and pitched 4.1 innings. He gave up nine hits including three home runs and had a 14.54 ERA.
Jeffress returned to Milwaukee on Monday and is expected to be activated off the injured list on Tuesday. The update on Jeffress’ status was reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
As a reliever last season, Jeffress appeared in 73 games for the Brewers. He had an 8-1 record and a 1.29 ERA.
The Missions play their next seven games on the road beginning Tuesday night against the Memphis Redbirds.
Willie Calhoun, Jett Bandy, Hunter Cole and Matt Davidson homered for the Sounds.
The Missions had 15 hits. Tyrone Taylor had four hits, one RBI and one run scored. Lucas Erceg had two hits including his third home run of the season.
Keston Hiura had a double and a triple. Corey Ray also had two hits.
Saladino hit three home runs over the previous two games. He is now batting .294 for the season.
Saladino singled in the second inning Sunday and scored the first run of the game when Tuffy Gosewisch drew a bases-loaded walk.
Saladino tripled in the fifth inning to drive in Corey Ray and Tyrone Taylor and give the Missions a 3-0 lead.
The Sounds scored two runs in the top of the sixth on solo home runs by Willie Calhoun homers and Matt Davidson. That trimmed the Missions’ lead to 3-2.
Mauricio Dubon and Keston Hiura both had run-scoring hits in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the Missions’ lead back to 5-2.
The Sounds made it close on a two-run homer by Andy Ibanez in the top of the eighth.
Missions starting pitcher Adrian Houser earned his first win of the season. He held the Sounds scoreless for five innings before giving up the two home runs in the sixth inning. Jay Jackson pitched the ninth inning and got his first save of the season.
The four-game series between the Missions and Sounds concludes early Monday with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch at Wolff Stadium.
On Friday night, Saladino hit an inside-the-park home run.
One night later, he powered two long balls over the left-field fence.
Saladino hit a two-run homer with Cory Spangenberg on base in the second inning. Saladino hit a solo shot in the seventh inning.
The Missions scored two more runs on a two-run double by Keston Hiura in the seventh inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Sounds also got two home runs: from Andy Ibanez in the top of the second inning and from Adam Moore in the eighth.
Missions starting pitcher Burch Smith earned his first win of the season. He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Even though it’s very early in the season, that gives you an idea why Ibanez is one of the Texas Rangers’ top prospects on the Nashville Sounds’ roster.
The Sounds third baseman had one hit, one RBI and one run scored in a 7-3 victory over the Missions at Wolff Stadium.
Ibanez is listed as infielder on the roster and has seen action as a second baseman in the minors. Prospects 1500 lists the 26-year-old from Cuba as the second highest prospect among position players on the Sounds’ roster and in the top 50 in the Rangers’ minor-league organization.
Missions fans got a chance to see Ibanez last season in the Texas League. He hit .283 with 12 home runs with Round Rock in 2018.
The Missions and Sounds continue their four-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Wolff Stadium with fireworks after the game. The teams meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m. and Monday at 11:05 a.m.
The San Antonio Missions got home runs Keston Hiura, Tyler Saladino and Tyrone Taylor but lost to the Memphis Sounds 7-3 Friday at Wolff Stadium.
Saladino hit an inside-the-park homer in the seventh inning, beating a tag in a close play at the plate, to give the Missions a 2-0 lead.
Hiura homered in the fourth for the first run of the game.
Taylor added his third home run of the season in the ninth.
The Sounds scored all seven of their runs in the eighth inning off Missions relief pitchers.
Missions starting pitcher Aaron Wilkerson threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Missions created the Flying Chanclas uniforms as an alternative last season.
The Missions won the previous two games in the series with ninth-inning rallies.
The Missions briefly led after scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead. Nate Orf had an RBI double, Cory Spangenberg had an RBI single and Jacob Nottingham had an RBI double.
The Redbirds tied it 3-3 with a run in the top of the third and took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Thomas hit 21 home runs in 100 games for Double-A Springfield in 2018. He also spent 32 games with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds and hit seven more homers. He also finished the summer with 17 stolen bases.
Baseball America lists Thomas as the No. 7 prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor-league organization. He is a member of the Cardinals’ 40-man roster. Thomas was originally drafted out of high school (Knoxville, Tenn.) by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014.
Thomas and the Redbirds are currently in San Antonio and conclude a three-games series with the Missions tonight at 7:05 at Wolff Stadium.
