The new outfielders for the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio got some work in at Wolff Stadium on Thursday morning.

The setting sun and stadium lights will be a lot different at the Chanclas home games, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on game nights.

The Chanclas are the San Antonio Missions’ entry in the Texas Collegiate League, which opens on Tuesday. The Chanclas start the season on the road in Amarillo and play their first home game at Wolff Stadium on Friday, July 3.

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio spent a big chunk of Thursday’s practice at Wolff Stadium taking infield.

The middle infielders especially got a lot of work and the team also went over defensive situations.

The Chanclas are the San Antonio Missions’ entry in the Texas Collegiate League, which opens on Tuesday. The Chanclas start the season on the road in Amarillo and play their first home game at Wolff Stadium on Friday, July 3.

For the first time in a long time, there are signs of an upcoming season at Wolff Stadium.

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio spent Thursday morning practicing and meeting the local media with the 2020 Texas Collegiate League opener just five days away.

The Chanclas, the entry of the San Antonio Missions in the TCL, are made up primarily of players who have ties to local college or high schools.

Former major league manager John McLaren is managing the team.

The Chanclas open the season on the road Tuesday in Amarillo. The first home game at Wolff Stadium is Friday, July 3.

Chanclas sign four area players

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio on Saturday announced the signing of four more players with ties to South Texas for the 2020 Texas Collegiate League season.

OF Kyte McDonald, Mississippi State, Antonian
OF Jordan Thomas, Grayson College, Boerne Champion
C Tyler LaRue, Rice, Blanco
P Jaime Ramirez Jr., A&M-Corpus Christi, Holy Cross

McDonald signed with Mississippi State but does not show up on the team’s statistics for this spring.

Thompson batted .435 with five home runs in 29 games this season at Grayson.
LaRue, a 38th-round draft pick by Washington in 2019, played in 10 games at Rice this season and batted .143 in 21 at-bats.

Ramirez pitched in seven games and had a 3.21 ERA this season at A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio announced Friday they have signed three players from St. Mary’s for the 2020 Texas Collegiate League summer baseball season:

P Connor Schmidt, Devine
P Johnny Panatex, Pflugerville
IF Johnny Hernandez, El Paso

Panatex made eight appearances, all in relief, during the abbreviated 2020 college season. He had a 2-0 record and a 2.25 ERA.

Schmidt appeared in eight games with one start. He had a 0-1 record with a 5.11 ERA.

Hernandez batted .299 in 22 games with a team-high three home runs.

The Flying Chanclas are the San Antonio Missions’ entry in the TCL.

Chanclas sign three UIW players

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio announced on Friday they signed three players from Incarnate Word for the 2020 Texas Collegiate League season:

SS Grant Smith, Houston, St. Pius
1B Ryan Flores, Corpus Christi, Carroll
IF Lee Thomas, Katy, Cinco Ranch

Smith led Incarnate Word in batting at .339 in 16 games for the abbreviated 2020 season. Thomas was second on the team in batting with a .328 average. Flores batted .270.

The Chanclas are the entry of the San Antonio Missions for this summer’s college baseball season.

Chanclas sign four TCU players

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio announced on Thursday they signed four TCU players to 2020 Texas Collegiate League summer baseball roster:

P Marcelo Perez (RH), Laredo
P Austin Krob (LH), Lisbon, Iowa

The Chanclas are the TCL entry of the San Antonio Missions.

Also on Thursday, the Round Rock Hairy Men announced their 2020 TCL roster, including two players from San Antonio colleges:

Flying Chanclas add four UTSA players

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio announced Wednesday that they added four UTSA players for 2020 Texas College League summer baseball season:

IF Leyton Barry, Houston
IF Garrett Poston, Alvin Community College
C Nick Wolff, Blinn College
P/IF Kobe Jamarillo, Bishop TX

The Chanclas are the summer college team of the San Antonio Missions and play their home games at Wolff Stadium. The Chanclas open the TCL season on the road on June 30 and play their first home game on July 3.

Flying Chanclas announce 2020 Texas Collegiate League schedule

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio will open the 2020 Texas Collegiate League schedule on the road on June 30 against the Amarillo Sod Squad.

The San Antonio Missions-sponsored team will play their first home game at Wolff Stadium on July 3.

The schedule mostly alternates between three-game road and three-game home series.

The exception is two series against Round Rock, when the teams go back and forth.

The Flying Chanclas play a total of 15 home games. All home games start at 7:05 p.m. The Missions will have their social distancing plan in effect for games at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions will have fireworks displays after the first two Chanclas home games on July 3 and 4. There will also be fireworks after Saturday games on July 18 and Aug. 1.

Thursday home games are Dollar Nights will dollar hot dogs, soda and draft beer. Tuesday home games feature $2 bleacher tickets, parking, sausage wraps and draft beer.
