Tirso Ornelas’ two-run double in the seventh inning put the Missions in front for good.
One night after winning on a walk-off hit in the ninth inning, the San Antonio Missions got the job done two innings earlier on Thursday.

Tirso Ornelas lashed a double to center field and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh inning at Wolff Stadium. That gave the Missions a one-run lead they held on to in a 5-4 victory over the Amarillo Sod Poodles.

San Antonio batters produced nine hits, including two in the seventh inning. Jorge Ona led off the seventh with a single. Ripken Reyes was hit by a pitch with one out. Ona and Reyes both scored on Ornelas’ double.

Ornelas, Ona and Reyes had two hits each and combined for four RBIs and four runs. In the fifth inning, Ona had an RBI double and Reyes had a sac fly.

Juan Fernandez recorded a hit in his seventh straight game and is batting .323.

Missions reliever Kevin Kopps (3-0) pitched the sixth and seventh innings and earned the win. Alek Jacob pitched the last two innings and got his first save.
