McCown had a famous family name but a relatively low profile in San Antonio when he took over as the team’s starting quarterback.
McCown, whose father Josh played 18 seasons in the NFL, made his first start at UTSA in what turned out to be the Roadrunners’ first bowl victory in program history. McCown started in place of Frank Harris and led UTSA to a 35-17 win over Marshall in the Frisco Bowl at the end of the 2023 season.
The 6-foot-1 left-hander has retained his low-key demeanor even as he has established himself in a spotlight position.
McCown started all 13 games for UTSA last season. He completed 294-of-467 passes (63.0 percent) for 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He also ran for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
