The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio got a big offensive night from the bottom of a revamped batting order and beat the Round Rock Hairy Men 7-2 on Friday at Wolff Stadium.
Tyler LaRue, batting seventh, had two hits, walked once and scored three times. Leyton Barry, batting eighth, had three hits including a seventh-inning home run, had two RBIs and scored twice. Grant Smith, batting ninth, had two hits and one RBI and scored a run.
The Chanclas had a new look in the middle of the infield. Bryan Aguilar, who joined the team during the Chanclas’ just completed road trip, started at shortstop. Aguilar is from East Central High School and Marshall University. Jalen Battles, who just joined the team, started at second base. Battles is from Madison High School and Arkansas.
The Chanclas, who trailed the Hairy men by one game entering Friday, got solid pitching and allowed only one earned run in the game. Starter Logan Garza went three innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Arturo Guajardo, the first reliever out of the bullpen, held Round Rock scoreless and hitless the fourth through sixth innings with five strikeouts. Matthew Sessler pitched two scoreless-hitless innings while striking out two.
