Isaiah Addo-Ankrah of the UTSA men’s basketball team is a junior from Houston.

The 6-foot-7 guard is averaging 7.4 points in 16 games this season including 10 starts. He is shooting 28-of-89 (36.3 percent) from 3-point range.

Addo-Ankrah played in 20 games last season, made five starts and averaged 5.2 points. He played in six games as a freshman and averaged 1.8 points.

Former Missions invited to Padres’ spring training

The San Diego Padres on Wednesday announced the players not on their 40-man roster who have been invited to major league spring training.

The list includes several players who have recently been with the San Antonio Missions, including:

– Moises Lugo, right-handed pitcher

– Matt Waldron, right-handed pitcher

– Aaron Leasher, left-handed pitcher

– Juan Fernandez, catcher

– Chandler Seagle, catcher

– Taylor Kohlwey, outfielder

– Tirso Ornelas, outfielder

Padres prospects to watch for on San Antonio Missions

Former Arkansas star Kevin Kopps, pitching in relief for the San Antonio Missions in September 2021, is one of the San Diego Padres’ top 30 prospects.
The San Diego Padres are just days away from opening 2023 spring training at their Cactus League headquarters at the Peoria Sports Complex in the Phoenix area.

The current San Antonio Missions roster, which will see changes between now and their Texas League opener on April 6, shows five players listed as Padres prospects:

Hailey Atwood is a 5-foot-8 guard for the UTSA women’s basketball team.

The senior from Austin Bowie High School averaged 3.8 points and 2.9 rebounds through 20 games of this season. She scored a season-high 12 points on Thursday against Western Kentucky.

Atwood played in 27 games as a junior at UTSA after spending two seasons at Blinn Junior College.

Kyra White is a 5-foot-9 guard for the UTSA women’s basketball team.

The junior from Converse Judson High School in the San Antonio area was a three-time all-state player.

Now a junior, White went to USC out of high school and transferred to UTSA ahead of this season. She averages 6.9 points per game and leads the Roadrunners with 4.3 assists per game. White is one of only two UTSA players to start in all 20 games so far this season.

Sidney Love of the UTSA women’s basketball team is a freshman from Cibolo Steele High School in the San Antonio area.

The 5-8 guard was all-district as a senior at Steele and scored 1,300 points in her high school career.

Love is third on UTSA in scoring with 8.9 points through 20 games and is second in assists with 2.0 per game.

Elyssa Coleman is a 6-foot-3 forward for the UTSA women’s basketball team.

The sophomore from Houston is averaging 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds through UTSA’s first 20 games of the season. She started 18 of 20 games.

She played in all 30 UTSA games as a freshman and averaged 7.9 points and 4.9 rebounds.

Jordyn Jenkins leads UTSA women’s basketball in scoring through the first 20 games of the season with 21.0 points per game. She also averages 7.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

The 6-foot forward is a transfer from USC. She led USC in scoring last season and earned All-Pac 12 honors.

Missions announce 2023 staff; former manager Wellman promoted to Triple-A

The San Diego Padres on Wednesday announced the field staff for the 2023 San Antonio Missions.

Former Missions manager Phillip Wellman will be the 2023 manager for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. He spent five seasons at the helm in Double-A San Antonio.

Luke Montz will take over as manager of the Missions. He spent the last season as a manager in the Red Sox organization. Montz spent 13 seasons as a professional catcher.

Jeff Andrews is the Missions’ new pitching coach. He spent the last two seasons as pitching coach with the Double-A Frisco Rough Riders. He was the pitching coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008.

Pat O’Sullivan is San Antonio’s new hitting coach. This is his sixth season coaching in the Padres’ organization. He spent the last two seasons as hitting coach at Class A Lake Elsinore.

Former Missions player Felipe Blanco returns to the team as bench coach. He saw action in San Antonio in parts of 2016 and 2017. He was part of the coaching staff at Lake Elsinore the last three seasons.
