Big inning carries Chanclas to victory in home opener

The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio started their Fourth of July weekend celebration by winning their home opener.

The Chanclas scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to beat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 7-4 Friday at Wolff Stadium.

The Chanclas put together their big inning with three hits, three walks and a Cane Cutters error.

The Chanclas are 2-2 on the Texas Collegiate League season. They have a two-game winning streak after taking the final game of the opening road trip on Thursday followed by Friday’s home victory.

Matthew Sesler from A&M-Kingsville was the first reliever out of the Chanclas’ bullpen. He went 3 1/3 scoreless innings and did not allow a hit or a walk.

Chanclas starting pitcher Logan Garza from Our Lady of the Lake went 2 2/3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks.

Eric Cervantes from Marshall High School doubled in the third inning and scored the Chanclas’ first run of the game. He singled and scored again in the fourth inning.
