Texas Collegiate League stats show he appeared in three games for the Flying Chanclas this season including the home opener at Wolff Stadium. He also played in Saturday night’s Chanclas vs. Texas USA game.
Smith has been holding down third base for the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio. He has 19 hits and 11 RBIs in 25 games and has stolen three bases.
During the shortened 2020 college season, Smith led Incarnate Word in batting at .339 in 16 games. He had one double, one triple, one home run and 15 RBIs.
Barry, who saw his last action on July 16, batted .279 in 12 games with one home run, seven RBIs and eight runs scored.
Barry is listed as an infielder from Houston and UTSA. He played third base and left field for the Chanclas.
During the shortened 2020 college season, he batted .375 in seven games at UTSA with two home runs.
LaRue played in 10 of Rice’s 16 games during the shortened 2020 season.
He earned first-team all-state honors at Blanco in 2019 and was picked in the 38th round of the MLB draft by the Washington Nationals.
LaRue has played in 19 of 23 games this season for the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio. He has one double, two triples, seven RBIs and has walked 13 times.
Flores bats left-handed and leads the Chanclas in RBIs (15). He is second on the team in hits (21) and third in batting average (.323) after playing in 17 of the first 20 games.
Battles had a hit, a walk and an RBI in his Chanclas debut, a 7-2 victory over the Round Rock Hairy Men at Wolff Stadium.
Battles is an infielder from Madison High School and University of Arkansas.
Thomas is listed as a 6-foot-2 and 210-pound infielder and looks like he could be even a bit bigger than that. He is from Katy and plays at University of the Incarnate Word.
Thomas has played in nine games for the Chanclas. He has seven hits on the season including a double and a triple in Sunday’s 6-1 victory over the Round Rock Hairy Men.
The 6-foot-1 left-hander from Clark High School and A&M-Kingsville has a 1-0 record and a 0.90 ERA in 10.0 innings this summer. He has struck out 11 and allowed five hits and four walks.
In Sunday’s 6-0 victory over the Round Rock Hairy Men at Wolff Stadium, Flores retired all nine batters he faced and struck out four.
The Chanclas got eight hits including a triple and double by Lee Thomas of University of the Incarnate Word and a double by Johnny Hernandez of St. Mary’s University.
Chanclas pitchers also had a solid night, limiting the Hairy Men to four hits and only one walk with 10 strikeouts.
Lance Lusk from Sam Houston State started on the mound and went four innings. Lusk (1-0) gave up one unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk to get the win.
Tyler Flores of Clark High School and A&M-Kingsville pitched three scoreless innings in relief and Connor Schmidt of Devine High School and St. Mary’s pitched the final two scoreless innings.
The Chanclas are off Monday before playing a three-game series in Victoria. The Chanclas are back home Friday, Saturday and Sunday for three more games against Victoria.
Tyler LaRue, batting seventh, had two hits, walked once and scored three times. Leyton Barry, batting eighth, had three hits including a seventh-inning home run, had two RBIs and scored twice. Grant Smith, batting ninth, had two hits and one RBI and scored a run.
The Chanclas had a new look in the middle of the infield. Bryan Aguilar, who joined the team during the Chanclas’ just completed road trip, started at shortstop. Aguilar is from East Central High School and Marshall University. Jalen Battles, who just joined the team, started at second base. Battles is from Madison High School and Arkansas.
The Chanclas, who trailed the Hairy men by one game entering Friday, got solid pitching and allowed only one earned run in the game. Starter Logan Garza went three innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Arturo Guajardo, the first reliever out of the bullpen, held Round Rock scoreless and hitless the fourth through sixth innings with five strikeouts. Matthew Sessler pitched two scoreless-hitless innings while striking out two.
