Karrington Donald scored 18 points and UTSA surged in the second half to beat Florida International 60-45 in women’s basketball on Saturday at the UTSA Convocation Center.
It was the first Conference USA victory for the Roadrunners (1-1 in C-USA, 5-8 overall).
Donald was 4-of-10 from 3-point range. UTSA, which struggled on offense in the first half, outscored FIU 25-13 in the third quarter to take a 41-34 lead.
Mikayla Woods and Charlene Mass had 11 points each for the Roadrunners, who had only eight players in uniform.
Charlene Mass has started eight of the first 11 games of the 2019-20 season for the UTSA women’s basketball team.
The Roadrunners open Conference USA play at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the UTSA Convocation Center against Florida Atlantic. UTSA follows that with a Saturday 2 p.m. conference game against Florida International.
Mass is a 5-foot-7 freshman guard from Converse and Veterans Memorial High School.
Freshman forward Adryana Quezada led UTSA with 32 points including the go-ahead basket with 14 seconds left as the Roadrunners beat Texas Wesleyan 80-78 in women’s basketball on Friday at the UTSA Convocation Center.
Quezada tied to school record for points in a game by a freshman.
Junior guard Karrington Donald had 16 points. Senior guard Deja Cousin had seven point plus a key rebound with two seconds left in the game.
Freshman guard Mikayla Woods, who scored 32 points in UTSA’s previous game, did not play on Friday. She was on the bench but not in uniform.
UTSA (4-6) is off until a Dec. 29 road game against Texas Tech. The Roadrunners start the new year with conference home games against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 2 and Florida International on Jan. 4.
Keaton Wallace scored 31 points to lead UTSA to an 89-67 victory over A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at the UTSA Convocation Center.
Wallace drove at the basket aggressively, resulting in baskets and free throws. He was 15-of-15 from the free-line, setting a school record for free throws in a game without a miss.
Jacob Germany, Knox Hellums and Jhivvan Jackson had 12 points each for UTSA (2-6).
Prairie View A&M got off to a fast start shooting 3-pointers and beat UTSA 79-72 on Saturday at the UTSA Convocation Center.
Prairie View A&M was 9-of-15 from 3-point range for the game and made their first five 3-point attempts in the first half. Gerard Andrus led the Panthers with 20 points.
Jhivvan Jackson led UTSA with 30 points and Keaton Wallace had 11. The Roadrunners fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-1 at home.
Jhivvan Jackson scored 31 points, Keaton Wallace had 14, Atem Bior had 11 and Erik Czumbel had 10 as UTSA beat Wiley College 90-68 in men’s basketball on Friday night at the UTSA Convocation Center.
It was the first home game and first victory of the season for the Roadrunners (1-5).
