Missions reliever Justin Lopez was the winning pitcher.Ryan Bergert and two San Antonio Missions relievers combined to blank the Midland RockHounds 1-0 on Friday at Wolff Stadium.
Bergert went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. He didn’t get a decision in a game that didn’t have a run scored until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Justin Lopez took over on the mound for Bergert and went 2 1/3 innings to earn the win. He didn’t allow a hit or walk and struck out two.
Efrain Contreras pitched the top of the ninth inning to get the save.
Marcos Castanon scored the only run of the game. He led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, advanced to third on a hit by Connor Hollis and came home on a sacrifice fly by Juan Zabala.
Friday marked the first game back in the Missions lineup for Hollis, who was activated earlier in the day after being placed on the injured list on July 3.

UTSA beat Central Arkansas 5-1 on Thursday in the Roadrunners’ women’s soccer season opener at UTSA Park West.
The Roadrunners got first-half goals from Deja Sandoval, Sasjah Dade and Zoe Lam and second-half goals from Alissa Stewart and Jordan Walker.
Jordyn Hyland had two assists and Sabrina Hillyer, Alex Granville, Sarina Russ and Brittany Holden had one each. Mia Krusinski played all 90 minutes in goal for UTSA.
Central Arkansas’ goal came on a penalty kick by Kelly Van Gundy in the second half.
UTSA returns to action at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. against McNeese State.

Ripken Reyes homers to give the Missions a 1-0 lead in the first inning.The San Antonio Missions scored the first four runs of the game before falling to the Midland RockHounds 7-5 on Wednesday at Wolff Stadium.
For the second straight night, the Missions shut out the RockHounds over the first five innings.
The Missions got strong pitching early. Starter Daniel Camarena threw three shutout innings. Michel Baez followed by allowing one run over three innings as the Missions built a 4-1 lead after six innings.
Ripken Reyes gave the Missions a fast start by leading off the bottom of the first inning with his fifth home run of the season. Reyes, Jackson Merrill, Korry Howell and Justin Farmer had two hits each and the Missions finished with 12 hits.
The RockHounds turned the game around with four runs in the seventh inning. That included a crucial error by the Missions with two outs followed shortly thereafter by a three-run homer by Max Muncy.
Midland put the game out of reach with a two-run homer by Jack Winkler in the top of the eighth.

Missions starter Gabe Mosser held the RockHounds scoreless for five innings.Midland’s Lazaro Armenteros and Max Muncy hit home runs to carry the RockHounds to a 6-2 victory over the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday at Wolff Stadium.
Armenteros hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to give the RockHounds a 3-2 lead. Muncy added a three-run shot in the ninth to extend the advantage.
San Antonio starting pitcher Gabe Mosser threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
The Missions took the lead by scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Juan Zabala’s ground ball turned into a Midland error that allowed Michael De La Cruz to score. Ripken Reyes singled to drive in Korry Howell and make it 2-0.

The Rangers acquired starting left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery and right-handed reliever from the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
Texas sends middle infielder Thomas Saggese, right-handed pitcher and left-handed pitcher John King to St. Louis.
Saggese was the No. 14 prospect in the Rangers minor league organization, according to MLB.com. The 21-year-old was batting .314 with 14 home runs and 78 RBIs in 92 games this season for the Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League. He was a fifth-round draft pick out of high school in 2020.
On Friday, the Rangers acquired pitcher Max Scherzere from the New York Mets for Frisco infielder Luisangel Acuna, the No. 3 prospect in the Rangers organization.

Acuna, who has played at Wolff Stadium a number of times this season against the San Antonio Missions, is batting .315 on the season. He has seven home runs and 51 RBIs in 84 games. He also stole 42 bases.
The 21-year-old from Venezuela was the No. 3 prospect in the Rangers’ minor league organization.
Former Missions infielder Luis Aviles Jr. (10) hit his 12th home run of the season.Luis Aviles Jr. opened the season wearing a San Antonio Missions uniform. Friday night he hit a long ball in his former home stadium.
Aviles, Drew Gilbert and Kenedy Corona all homered for the Corpus Christi Hooks in an 8-1 victory over the Missions at Wolff Stadium.
Aviles hit a two-run shot as part of the Hooks’ five-run second-inning surge.
The 28-year-old Aviles was signed by the San Diego Padres to a minor league contract in March and assigned to the Missions. He was released by the Missions in May and signed by a Mexican League team before being picked up by the Houston Astros organization and assigned to Corpus Christi on June 6.
Gilbert, the No. 1 prospect in the Astros minor league system mlb.com/prospects/astros/ added a three-run homer in the second inning. The 22-year-old outfielder was a first-round draft pick by the Astros in 2022 after playing in college at Tennessee.
Corona, the No. 17 Astros prospect, hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Hooks outfielder and leadoff batter is a 23-year-old from Venezuela.
All three Corpus Christi home runs came off Missions starting pitcher Daniel Camarena, who took the loss.
Missions manager Luke Montz was ejected in the fourth inning. He protested after Daniel Johnson’s long fly ball down the left-field line was initially ruled a home run, then changed to a foul.

Houston Astros prospect Colton Gordon struck out seven batters in five innings.The Corpus Christi Hooks took the lead for good in the first inning and added 10 runs in the sixth to beat the San Antonio Missions 13-2 on Thursday at Wolff Stadium.
Hooks right fielder Zach Daniels had five RBIs with two hits including a first-inning home run.
Corpus Christi starting pitcher Colton Gordon went five innings and got the win. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Gordon, the No. 8 prospect in the Houston Astros’ organization, has allowed two or fewer earned runs in his last six starts and lowered his ERA from 3.98 to 3.30 over that stretch. The 24-year-old left-hander was the Astros’ eighth-round pick in the 2021 draft after playing college ball at Central Florida.
