The UTSA women’s basketball program honored its seniors on Thursday night in the Roadrunners’ final home game of the season.

It was the last game at the Convocation Center for Evelyn Omemmah, Deja Cousin, Timea Toth and Tija Hawkins.

UTSA lost to Louisiana Tech 69-30 in a Conference USA game. The Roadrunners fell to 6-22 on the season and 2-15 in conference with one game left.

I’ve never seen a college basketball team hit by as many injuries in a season as this group.

Cousin and Hawkins were not in uniform Thursday, spending the game on the bench in warmups. Cousin has been limited to 11 games this season due to injury and Hawkins played only five games before being sidelined.

Omemmah and Toth both started Thursday. Omemmah was hurt late in the first half and spent the second half sitting with a boot on her right foot.

Karrington Donald, Charlene Mass and Toth are the only UTSA players who have not missed any games this season.

Fourth quarter foils UTSA women against UTEP

UTEP outscored UTSA 29-7 in the fourth quarter to beat the Roadrunners 85-59 in women’s basketball on Thursday at the UTSA Convocation Center.

UTEP led 56-52 at the end of the third quarter. UTSA, which has typically had only seven to nine players in uniform most of the season due to injuries, wore down over the final 10 minutes.

Avery Crouse led UTEP with 21 points and Ariona Gill and Katia Gallegos had 17 each.

Senior forward Evelyn Omemmah led the Roadrunners with a career-high 17 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman forward Adryuana Quezada had 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Freshman guard Mikayla Woods, who leads UTSA in scoring this season, was not in uniform.

UTSA is 2-12 in Conference USA and 6-19 on the season. UTEP is 7-7 and 14-11.

Keaton Wallace is the UTSA men’s basketball team’s No. 2 scorer with 19.0 points per game.

In addition to his talent for impressive dunks, the 6-foot-3 junior guard from Dallas is also second on the team in 3-pointers made (70).

The Roadrunners’ next game is at home on Thursday at 8 p.m. against Marshall.

UTSA junior Jhivvan Jackson has been near or at the top of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball scoring list all season.

The 6-foot guard is currently second in the nation at 27.0 points per game.

Markus Howard of Marquette is the top scorer in the nation at 27.4 points.

The Roadrunners split two Conference USA road games last week. Jackson scored 45 points in an overtime victory over Old Dominion.

UTSA is back home for two CUSA games this week – against Marshall on Thursday and Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Charlotte beat UTSA 67-47 Saturday in Conference USA women’s basketball in the Roadrunners’ annual pink game at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Evelyn Ememmah led UTSA with 14 points and Mikayla Woods had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Jazmin Harris led Charlotte with 14 points.

UTSA fell to 2-9 in CUSA and 6-16 overall. Charlotte is 6-5 and 15-7.

Old Dominion beat UTSA 62-43 in a Conference USA women’s basketball game on Thursday at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Freshman guard Mikayla Woods, who averages a team-high 15.3 points per game, led the Roadrunners with 11 points and 3 assists.

UTSA fell to 2-8 in conference and 6-15 overall. Old Dominion, led by Victoria Morris and Taylor Edwards with 14 points each, is 9-1 in CUSA and 19-3 overall.

Holland, a forward from Georgetown, Texas, was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the week.

Conference USA-leading Rice beat UTSA 74-62 in women’s basketball on Saturday at the UTSA Convocation Center.

UTSA started strong defensively and led 20-15 in the second quarter. Rice took over the game with an 18-6 run to finish the first half with a seven-point lead.

Freshman guard Mikayla Woods led UTSA with 30 points and Charlene Mass had 10. UTSA fell to 2-5 in CUSA and 6-12 overall.

Rice is 8-0 and 13-6. Erica Ogwumike led Rice with 30 points and 11 rebounds.

Ben Hanley scored 18 points and Luke Stuart had 16 as Trinity beat Texas Lutheran 87-79 in men’s basketball on Friday at Trinity.

Ben Canady had 12 points for the Tigers. Stephen Molina led the Trinity bench with 10 points.

Sebastian Andrade led TLU with 18 points, Caleb Lister had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Jorden Kite had 15 points.
