RockHounds homer past Missions after Gabe Mosser’s strong start

Missions starter Gabe Mosser held the RockHounds scoreless for five innings.
Midland’s Lazaro Armenteros and Max Muncy hit home runs to carry the RockHounds to a 6-2 victory over the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday at Wolff Stadium.

Armenteros hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to give the RockHounds a 3-2 lead. Muncy added a three-run shot in the ninth to extend the advantage.

San Antonio starting pitcher Gabe Mosser threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The Missions took the lead by scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Juan Zabala’s ground ball turned into a Midland error that allowed Michael De La Cruz to score. Ripken Reyes singled to drive in Korry Howell and make it 2-0.

Five San Antonio Missions pitchers teamed up to shut out the Corpus Christi Hooks 9-0 on Wednesday at Wolff Stadium.

Gabe Mosser, who was recently promoted to the Missions from Class A Fort Wayne, started and went four innings. He allowed two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Jose Espada was the first Missions reliever out of the bullpen and went 2 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Justin Lopez got the final out of the seventh inning. Jairo Iriarte and Jose Quezada pitched one inning each to finish the game.

The Missions dominated the game with 11 hits. Ripken Reyes, Daniel Johnson, Marcos Castanon and Michael De La Cruz had two hits each. Johnson and Castanon had triples and Korry Howell and Juan Fernandez both had doubles. Castanon extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Missions’ bats cold in loss to NW Arkansas; Gabe Mosser, Jairo Iriarte see first action with S.A.

The San Antonio Missions managed just five hits in a 4-1 loss to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Saturday at Wolff Stadium.

Jackson Merrill scored the Missions’ only run in the bottom of the eighth inning after the Naturals had a 3-0 lead. Merrill doubled, went to third after walks by Marcos Castanon and Daniel Johnson, and then came home on a passed ball. Merrill is the top prospect in the San Diego Padres organization and made his Missions debut on Friday.

Missions right-hander Jairo Iriarte made his Double-A debut. The 21-year-old pitched the seventh and eighth innings and didn’t allow a run, hit or walk and struck out five batters. Before being promoted, he pitched in 14 games for the high Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps, all starts, with a 3-3 record and 3.10 ERA.

Gabe Mosser also pitched in relief for the Missions in his first appearance after being promoted from Fort Wayne. He started the sixth inning and got two outs before being replaced. He allowed two runs and three hits with no walks and one strikeout. Mosser pitched in five games for the Missions in 2022.

Missions starting pitcher Jackson Wolf had a solid night but took the loss. He completed five innings and gave up one run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
